Saint Frances Cabrini, the first American to be canonized, established her shrine as a place where orphaned children could enjoy the solitude of the wilderness during the summer months. The shrine is located south of the city, near the Apex Open Space Park. Today the shrine is an active place of worship staffed by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, who still hold Mass daily.
