Nice Little Middle Eastern Gem!!

Posted by hummuslover on 2/18/2008

My brother-in-law is Persian, so I know something about this type of food. This restaurant is a nice little gem that is hidden because of it's off-the-beaten-path location, but the food is great, the service is very good, and the atmosphere is really excellent (especially the room next to the main dining area that is decorated with all sorts of Middle Eastern flare). The Dolme (stuffed grape leaves) and Baba Ganoush are a must along with the kabob. I've been about 10 times and would recommend this place to anyone who likes good food from the Middle East!! Their take-out is also great - especially after a long day of skiing!!

Best Middle Eastern Food in Denver, or, maybe, this side of the Mediterranean

Posted by amalfion1 on 10/4/2007

A few weeks ago, it was my turn to treat a friend to dinner. He and I had eaten at Jerusalem a few times, but, like one of the the recent reviewers, we must admit that this Middle Eastern food is the best we have ever tasted in Denver. My friend, by the way, spent time in a monastery in Palestine for a year, so he has become a connoiseur of cuisine from the Levant. The flat bread is superb. Both the meat and the vegetarian dishes are top drawer. I recommend the baba ganoush for an appetizer, even if you are having a meat entree. I keep coming back to try new dishes. And the prices make this dining experience a steal. As for the ambience, one has one's choice between the two dining rooms. One may dine in the plainer, less traditional dining room, or one may dine upstairs, in the more opulent room, in which there is actually a small fountain. Just try not to spill too much rice. A low table contends with my sloppy eating habits; I have thought about placing a tarp underneath me at times. I think eating a meal at this place cures most, if not all, ills. No spiritus beverages on the menu, but the mango juice, chai, Greek cafe (or Turkish cafe, if you prefer) are all refreshing.

Best Restaurant Ever!!!

La Zeez in Denver, CO had been my favorite restaurant of all times and had expanded my experience to include more Middle Eastern dishes. When it closed, I was without my now favorite flavours and dishes. Luckily, Fayahd Autobacchi, the former owner of La Zeez, along with his new partner, have opened Ali Baba's Grill in Golden. Each platter is carefully prepared not just for looks, but also for a perfect balance of flavour and taste. The portions are huge for a reasonable price and the decor is interesting. You have not had hummus until you've tried theirs (as well as every other dish on the menu). I have been a vegetarian most of life, but I did try a bite of a few of their meat dishes several years ago and it is the only time that meat has not just been tolerable, but delicious! (not that I would make a habit of a lifestyle change). Even if you are not passing through Golden, the 25 minutes from Denver is well worth the trip.

If you love baklavah, you'll love this restaurant

If you love baklavah, you'll love this restaurant. It's not a fancy place, but the food is great - including the pita bread, hummus, grape leaves, baklavah and skewered chicken. The atmosphere is definitely casual. The staff is very friendly...

No Contest - Best Hummus in Town

Howdy! I love Jerusalem, been going there since I was a kid. Likewise I'm a fan of Pete's in all its incarnations, the Diner, Pete's Kitchen, etc. However, Ali Baba still rules the roost in my book. When I need a Hummus fix, there's no better place. The first bite of their Chicken Be-Shawarma (get it with the hummus) will tell you all you need to know - You've found a new favorite spot. I've brought a lot of folks here, and Ali Baba never disappoints. The gorgeous expansion of the dining room and the opening of a 2nd location (which I have yet to visit in Highlands Ranch) suggests I'm not alone in thinking this place serves some good food. On busy weekend evenings, the service can be harried, otherwise expect good, unobtrusive service. The mint tea is superb and the fresh lemonade is very good, but powerful sweet - you might want to ask for an extra glass of ice to dilute it down a bit. If it's after 9pm, we go to Jerusalem. Any other time, we go to Ali Baba, gladly cruising out to Golden for this wonderful stuff.
